If you’ve been a member of Kindred Credit Union, even for a short time, you are aware of how much our values and purpose mean to us. Our purpose is cooperative banking that connects values and faith with finances, inspiring peaceful, just, and prosperous communities. And our shared values – integrity, compassion, stewardship – are woven into everything we do. From how we treat each other as teammates, members, and in community, to how we approach our personal and business finances, these values motivate us.
Kindred is aligning and strengthening our community impact work to focus on Housing Stability and Food Security. We have a long history of responding to changing community needs. As well, we have been refining our approach to charitable giving and engagement in recent years. Each shift reflects both intentional focus and our willingness to learn and adapt as the world around us changes.
In 2024, we introduced Housing, Hunger, and Mental Health as our Social Impact themes recognizing how deeply interconnected these community needs are. Throughout 2025, we asked how Kindred—as a financial institution—can make the meaningful impact. Drawing on our strengths, we determined that by focusing on Housing Stability and Food Security, we can address mental health by supporting integrated, community-led solutions.
Housing Stability
Everyone deserves a safe, affordable, and stable place to live. Kindred partners with organizations addressing housing needs and preventing homelessness in our communities. We see housing stability as a complex, critical issue where our financial expertise can make a real difference—particularly through timely, preventative interventions.
Food Security
Everyone deserves consistent access to healthy, affordable, and culturally appropriate food. Kindred builds on its strong agricultural roots and food-system expertise to support community-based food initiatives that promote health and well-being.
Now in 2026, we will work to focus our giving and engagement in these areas. As we continue to deepen our impact, you can expect to see some new partnerships in our communities, and continued dedication to organizations who have helped shape the success and history of Kindred. We plan for focus on these two areas through 2028 and share more updates as we build out our work in these critical areas.
Financial literacy will continue to show up is all aspects of our business, including money-wellness workshops and Each One Teach One sessions, and through products like our Affordable Housing GIC and Loan, Community Inspiration GIC, and Generations Account.
You can read more about our ongoing work in these areas through upcoming stories on our blog, or by learning about our Charitable Fund recipients.
